I AM ADDICTED

March 16, 2006 at 12:54 pm (this and that)

A few weeks ago, I received an email from an old pen friend who told me about this forum that was opened by a girl that used to write in FB’s [friendship books] back at the time when we were all crazy about NKOTB :) Friendship books [for those of you who don’t know what they are] are small paper booklets in which people write their addresses and interests and pass them on to other penfriends. If you receive a booklet and you “like” a person in it, you can write her a letter and become her penfriend :) A lot of my friends were crazy about them back then and many girls corresponded with each other. At my peak time, I had about +/- 30 penfriends and I still love writing letters. There’s nothing better than a real letter in your mailbox :)

So I went online to check out this forum and I met so many girls that I “knew” back then… and now I am online so much chatting with these girls and it’s so much fun! I feel like I am 18 again :) It’s crazy to think that I’ve “known” so many of them for over 10 years!

It’s funny, because I don’t consider myself someone who has a BIG crowd of friends, but only a few close ones. Nevertheless, everybody keeps telling me how many friends I have and that it’s awesome that I keep in touch with so many people. Well, I guess that is just “my thing”. I am a really good penfriend *lol* I’ve never minded that most of my close friends didn’t really live in the neighborhood [let alone now that I live in CA]… but what I am trying to say is that no matter how far my friends live away from me, I never feel alone. Keeping in touch by email and letters is ALMOST as good as hanging out with a friend in person… oh well, I said ALMOST ;) … and every friendship is unique!

As an example, I still keep in touch with a friend from school and whenever I am home, we hang out, have coffee together and catch up. She’s someone I would never go out with, but I like her company and we’re really happy whenever we get to see each other. I do believe that every person has something different to offer and I don’t want to miss out on that.
