(non-)WEDDING NEWS

March 2, 2006 at 3:32 pm (this and that)

Sorry I have been slack about the wedding news… actually, there were none.
First of all, I was totally distracted with having Alicia visit me and then I haven’t really gotten any further with my preparations. I was waiting for Jon’s parents to send me their guest list and the layout for the invitation is still waiting for the finishing touch.
I do have a complete list of people now who will receive an invitation/announcement – it’s going to be about 170.  Yeah, I am not kidding you…  I was like this:

I went to the print shop with my Mom yesterday and had a first talk with the printer about the invitations and how we can realize my ideas. I have to bring a paper sample of the paper that I am  going to use for the card cover, so that we can pick out the right printing colors and then we also have to decide what exactly the layout will look like.
I think it’s going to be at least another two weeks until I can think about sending the invitations out.

I am still trying to research on ecumenical weddings. If anyone of you knows anything about ecumenical weddings, please speak up. I would appreciate any help with planning the wedding ceremony. This is what freaks me out the most right now.

I can create the invitations, pick out flowers and all that stuff, but preparing the wedding ceremony really gives me headaches. I have no idea where to start (even though I found some helpful websites that at least give me an idea what the ceremony sequence could be). I don’t know how “strict” the Catholic church is about certain parts of the ceremony… I would love to have some modern music pieces and the wedding vows should be in a meaningful, but not too religious phrasing.
I think I’ll have to talk with my local pastor about this and find out if he can give me any more information on how wedding ceremonies work.
Honestly, having a catholic pastor, who lives in Beligum now, and a protestant pastor, who lives in Frankfurt, doesn’t make things easier.

This seems to be a common theme in our relationship: Why make things simple when they can be complicated?!

On a side note: I went to Cologne today to meet with one of my old penfriends that I hadn’t seen in 7 (!) years! Jay and I went to Boston together in 1998 and we really had an awesome time together back then. We saw each other one more time after that in January 1999. Jay used to live in Hamburg, but moved to Cologne 1,5 years ago. It was so great to finally see her again. We had some coffee at Starbucks [huhu Kim] and then we went to the N.Y. Bagel Shop and had a poppyseed bagel with cream cheese :) *yummy*
We talked and talked and talked and when I took a look at my watch for the first time, it was after 6 p.m. and we had talked for 5 hours straight! Yeah, we had to catch up on a lot :)
